Buckaroo

The other night right before bedtime, I found this cute little scene in our living room. So as sneaky as I could be I tried to capture the moment. And then a song came to my head... one that I love and that sums up perfectly my boys and their dad...

"Drivin' through town just my boy and me
With a Happy Meal in his booster seat
Knowin' that he couldn't have the toy 'til his nuggests were gone.
A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath.
His fries went a flyin', and his orange drink covered his lap
Well, then my four year old said a four letter word
It started with "S" and I was concerned
So I said, "Son, now where'd you learn to talk like that?"

He said, "I've been watching you, dad ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah, we're just alike, hey, ain't we dad?
I want to do everything you do.
So I've been watching you."

We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
Said, "Lord, please help me help my stupid self."
Just this side of bedtime later that night
Turnin' on my son's Scooby-Doo nightlight.
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees.
He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
Spoke to God like he was talkn' to a friend.
And I said, "Son, now where'd you learn to pray like that?"

He said, "I've been watching you, dad ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo, I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We like fixin' things and holding momma's hand
Yeah, we're just alike, hey, ain't we dad?
I want to do everything you do; so I've been watching you"

With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug.
Said, "My little bear is growin' up."
And he said, "But when I'm big I'll still know what to do."
"Cause I've been watching you, dad ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo, I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
By then I'll be strong as superman
We'll be just alike, hey , won't we dad
When I can do everything you do.
'cause I've been watching you."

Analogy

There are days when it rains, when it pours, and in our case yesterday, when it hails too! But after all the rain there is almost always, a rainbow. Life brings it's down pours of trials, tests, discourgements, dissapointments, hardships... but 'somewhere out there' there is a rainbow. Maybe a phone call from a friend, an answered prayer, a moment of peace, a glimpse of bettered understanding, laughter from a child, a goal acheived, an uplifting conversation with a loved one, a reminder of a promised blessing... there's always a rainbow that makes our lives a touch more brighter. I thank God for rainbows.

The Great Outdoors!

It was NICE today, can you believe it?! It feels like those days are very few right now, and I am aching for some good sunshine, and actually feeling the warmth of it's rays! We tend to feel stuck inside with all the wind, rain, and chill.... but I think the seasons are finally starting to change. Today we took advantage of the the weather while it was sunny.

These boys were the highlight of my day! I would have jumped on the Tonka truck myself to join in the fun, but.... well getting bigger has it's disadvantages. It just felt so good to step outside, stay outside, and actually enjoy it.

BUBBLES!!

Who doesn't love a good bubble bath!

It's flu season and we've taken our turn with the virus. Kleenex is everywhere, movies constantly playing, blankets and pillows lying all over, kitchen messy, and the laundry keeps piling up. I think we are finally recovering, just one last person in the family left, Carson... and I think he is coming down with it today. To all those who have had to take a part in the 'Season of Cold n' Flu'... hang in there! It soon will pass.

B squared

Cami just finished her last game of AAU basketball today. Her team never won a game and scored only one basket each time. Only 3 of the girls have ever made a basket, (this is including practice). And only half of them could get the ball to barely touch the net when shooting. LOL! But she had so much fun, loved learning the sport, and improved a ton by the end of the season. In hind site, I think I would have waited at least another year before I put her in AAU bball, becuase they just don't have the strength or aggressive intuition for sports at this age.

Here is her team: The Grandvew Tigers!!

And this week I had another birthday. One more year until the big 3 - 0!! It was a wonderful birthday. Breakfast from hubby. Morning Temple session. Lunch with dad and family on his lunch break. Shopping with mom without kids, (Thank you Jeremy :). Delicious dinner by hubby. Movie with kids. And WINCO maple bars!! Cards, birthday wishes, gifts... I was overwhelmed and touched by all those who thought of me and made this day special. Thank you to all and God bless!
